Hawthorn: Plant Medicine Immersion

Join me for a 3 week immersion into the deep heart healing medicine of Hawthorn.

Physically, emotionally, and spiritually, Hawthorn is a tonic for the heart.

It helps to restore heart function; nourishing the whole cardiovascular system, regulating heart rate, strengthening cardiac output, improving peripheral circulation, easing high blood pressure, and helping to balance cold and heat throughout the body.

As a tonic for the emotional heart, hawthorn does not sedate nor suppress the emotions but rather lends strength and build resilience to hold what we need to and dive into what we need to while also protecting wounded hearts and upholding the boundaries needed for their healing.

Hawthorn carries the wisdom of the crone, one so deep in her knowledge of and devotion to herself and her wildish nature that she will not be molded to the shape of another’s idea of her; and of the untethered maiden, one who dances and loves freely and revels in the fire of her heart’s emotions and desires.

I have come to hawthorn many times over the years and the depth of her medicine never fails me. I hold a deep respect and love for her wisdom.

We begin in opening circle, Saturday 11th May, 6-9pm at Lila Yoga, Edinburgh. We will share hawthorn tea, talk of her medicine, share some folklore, and be guided through meditation and drumming to journey with her spirit.

You will be given herbs to prepare and sit with each day over the three week immersion and have access to a closed group to share your questions and experiences throughout.

We will meet again on Thursday 23rd May (in the afternoon - time TBC) for a Hawthorn focused herb walk among the beautiful trees of Blackford Hill.

And for a final time in closing circle, Saturday 1st June, 7-9pm at Lila Yoga, to share tea together, share our experiences, and close the journey we have taken together.

The exchange for all gatherings and herbs is £150.

Mugwort : Plant Medicine Immersion

The inspirational energy of Imbolc is flowing.

To me, Imbolc is not the awakening or the sure footed first step into spring. I feel this time as a liminal space, the crossing between two worlds.

Shifting light and shadows.

As we move between these two seasons, winter and spring, so we move between directions on the medicine wheel, North and East. The end of one cycle into the beginning of a new one. Night into day.

But there is this space between the two, this liminal space, where the darkness of the night lingers and the cold winds of the Winter still whip around you yet there is this awareness of the light returning, the days coming a little longer, the sun gifting a little more warmth to your skin some days.

It’s as the time when you wake from sleep before you have opened your eyes, when you become aware of your physical reality but you longer still in your dreams.

One of my favourite stories of the Cailleach, whose energy rules over Winter, and Bride, whose energy blesses the Spring is one in which Bride is born from the Cailleach’s dreams as she wearies and rests near the end of Winter.

This is the energy of Imbolc to me. Not rushing forwards, but gathering energy around the dreams we bring out of winter, letting inspiration flow and intention form before action.

So, to indulge in that energy, I want to invite you to join me for a herbal immersion with Mugwort, herb of dreams.

We Saturday 10th February as we move into a new lunar cycle, 7:30 - 9:30pm at beautiful Lila Yoga, with a circle to open our month of dreaming.

We will mindfully taste a mugwort infusion, talk of and learn her medicine, and take a meditative shamanic journey with her energy.

You will receive herbs to work with at home over the course of next 4 weeks to deepen your personal connection to Mugwort. You’ll have access to a closed group for sharing your stories and experiences and asking any questions throughout this time, and we will meet again in circle Saturday March 9th to share together and close the immersion.

Exchange is £120 for both circles, herbs, and support throughout.

Winter's Call : Tending the Bones

I invite you once more to join me in circle at Lila Yoga to heed Winter’s Call and tend to the Bones of your being.

To me, this time of the year always calls for a deep physical, mental, and spiritual resilience. Winter’s Solstice has passed, the days have begun to lengthen, and holding onto that promise of Spring on it’s way brings a warm solace to the heart for sure. Yet, we still have many dark nights and weeks of Winters cold to move through.
In my herbal practice, this is the time I tend to see folks picking up more bugs and being less able to shift them, taking longer to recover, and generally feeling exhausted, depleted, and low.
So, for this gathering, we will talk of ways to tend to your physical body. We will spend some time discussing adrenal function and balance and how this relates to physical health and the immune system, and immune function itself.
We will sip on a bespoke blend of herbs to bring warmth and vitality, nourish the adrenal energy, and strengthen immune defences, discussing the energetics and medicinal properties of these herbs and when best to put them to use.
Then, we will settle into a guided drumming journey, drawing our energy and conciousness inward to explore the balance of energy within and the strength of the boundaries of the body and spirit.

These circles are open to all. Everyone is welcome and all sit in equality in these spaces, as community. Each one is held and heard in turn.

You need not have any experience of herbal medicine or shamanic journeying to join.

A yoga mat, bolster, and blanket will be provided for you but please bring anything else you may need to be comfortable for the evening.

Exchange is £65 for each circle / £180 for the winter series of 3.

Winter's Call : Tending the Nerves

Winter's Call : Tending the Nerves

Join me in circle, held in the beautiful warm space of Lila Yoga, while we tend to the nerves.

Settling into the quiet hold of darkness in the depth of these winter months and much of nature seems to takes rest around us.
Autumn’s show of golden light and leaves and rich red berries faded and gone to ground now, to compost and nourish and renew from the earth. Precious daylight hours dwindling, the bright white rays of winter sun on your skin a precious commodity not to be missed, a reminder of the fire, the warmth of summer.
This time of year naturally calls us into a slower pace of living. It calls us to tend to our selves, our homes, our family, our close communities. It calls us to inward journeying, introspection, to compost our own leaves and berries, the fruits of our spring and summer growth so we can also rest, nourish and renew from our roots. It calls us into deep rest and restoration, of body and mind.

We will sit together in circle, settling in with some breathwork and journalling while sipping a bespoke blend of herbs to soothe, ground, regulate, and nourish the nervous system.
We will learn about the function of the nervous system, how it responds to stress, and how to guide it into a relaxed state with herbs and lifestyle practices. We will focus on the herbs in our tea blend, discussing their energetics, medicinal properties, and the best times and ways to put them to use.
There will be space for sharing and questions throughout.
Then, we will settle into a guided drumming journey, drawing our energy and conciousness inward and down through the body into our roots. Exploring how we feel in these spaces, how we feel in a state of rest, and seeking guidance and healing for our own journeys into nervous system release and deep rest.

Winter’s Call : Tending the Heart

I warmly invite you to sit with me in circle in the beautiful sanctuary of Lila Yoga while we explore heart mending medicines.

We will sip on a bespoke heart focused herbal blend and talk of herbs to soothe and strengthen the emotional and energetic heart space.
Those that build resilience and offer support while we carry what we must, those that hold us while we mend the wounds we have gathered through life, those that soothe and settle a fearful or anxious state, and those that warm, enliven, and tend our hearts’ fire.
We will talk of their energetics and other medicinal properties to learn when and in what situations they may be best used.
We will settle then to an inward journey to explore our own hearts and all we may find there. Guided by the rhythmic vibration of the drum and the herbs we have called to our side, we will seek what we need for our own healing paths whether that be healing old wounds, learning to open to trust, learning to open to love, calling back parts of ourselves we have lost along the way, or remembering the strength we already hold.
